A bet game is any game where you stake money on an outcome, from a basketball match to a spin of a wheel. Online, bet games come in a handful of formats that work very differently, even when they look similar on screen.
This guide explains what decides the result in each format, how payouts are set, how fast each one plays, and how to keep any betgame within a budget.
What is a bet game?
A bet game is any game where you stake money on an outcome and get paid if that outcome happens. Online, bet games range from sports bets on real matches to slots, table games, and live dealer games. Every one of them has three parts: a stake, an outcome, and a payout.
- Stake: the amount you put on the outcome.
- Outcome: the result you’re betting on, such as a team winning or a card landing.
- Payout: what you receive if the outcome happens, set by odds, a paytable, or a fixed rate.
The main online betting formats
Online bet games fall into five main formats: sports betting, live sports betting, slots, digital table games, and live dealer games. They differ in three ways that matter to players: what decides the result, how the payout is set, and how fast a round plays. The table below compares them side by side.

Sports betting is covered in depth in the guide to sports betting in the Philippines, so this guide focuses on how all five formats compare.
Real events vs. random results
The biggest difference between bet games is what decides the result. Sports bets depend on real matches played by real teams. Slots and digital table games use a random number generator, or RNG, software that produces unpredictable results. Live dealer games use real cards, wheels, or dice, dealt or spun on camera.
With RNG games, each round is independent: a run of losses doesn’t make a win more likely on the next spin, and a win doesn’t make a loss more likely. The same is true of a live roulette wheel or a fresh deal of cards. With sports bets, information like injuries or lineups can move the odds, but the result is still decided on the court or field.
Each format sets its payout differently. Sports bets pay according to the odds when you place the bet. Table games have fixed payouts for each type of bet, such as even money on some wagers. Slots pay according to a paytable, and their long-run return is described as return to player, or RTP.
- Sports odds: in decimal odds, a winning ₱100 bet at 1.80 returns ₱180, including the stake. For a full walkthrough, see the guide to PBA odds.
- Table game payouts: each bet type has a set payout. Bets with a higher payout are the ones less likely to win.
- RTP: a percentage describing how much a slot is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. It’s a long-run average across all players, not a prediction of what any one session will return.
In every format, the operator’s margin is built into the odds, payouts, or RTP, which is why betting should be treated as a cost of entertainment.
Speed and session length
Bet games also differ in speed. A sports bet can take hours or even months to settle, while a slot spin or a digital table game round can finish in seconds. Faster formats mean more rounds in less time, which can make spending add up quickly if you don’t set limits first.
As an illustration, ₱20 a round sounds small. At one round every 10 seconds, that’s 360 rounds and ₱7,200 staked in an hour. A single sports bet of ₱100 on an evening game, by comparison, is one stake for the whole night. Knowing the pace of a format helps you set a budget that matches it.
In the Philippines, online betting is regulated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), and players must be 21 or older. Licensed operators follow PAGCOR’s rules on identity checks, fair play, and responsible gaming. Sticking to licensed platforms means your account, funds, and personal details are handled under those rules.
ArenaPlus is a PAGCOR-licensed online sportsbook with separate Sports and Casino sections, so you’ll find several of these formats in one account. Whatever the format, the same KYC verification, age rules, and account limits apply.
Responsible gaming
Every bet game carries risk, whatever the format. ArenaPlus is for players 21 and over only. Set a budget and a time limit before you play, bet only what you can afford to lose, and treat betting as entertainment, never as a way to earn money or recover losses.
ArenaPlus has a spending limit and time control settings under your account profile, then More, then Responsible Gaming, each resetting daily, weekly, or monthly. If betting starts causing problems, PAGCOR’s National Problem Gambling Helpline at (02) 8248-9568 offers confidential support from trained counselors, 24 hours a day (Daily Tribune).
FAQ
Is a bet game the same as gambling?
Yes. Any game where you stake money on an uncertain outcome is a form of gambling, whether it’s a sports bet or a slot spin.
What is RTP in a bet game?
Return to player is the share of money a slot is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. It describes the long run, not a single session.
What’s the difference between live casino and live betting?
Live casino means table games with a real dealer on video. Live betting means placing sports bets while a real match is in progress.
Can I play bet games on ArenaPlus if I’m under 21?
No. ArenaPlus is for players 21 and over, and KYC verification confirms each player’s age.
